10-Day Cultural Heritage Tour


Join Prof. Munir Shaikh of Bayan Claremont on this tour. You’ll see amazing destinations with expert guidance, make new friends, and have an exciting and educational experience.

Prof. Munir Shaikh has taught numerous academic courses in Islamic history and world history. Topics to be covered include: Islamic civilization (technologies, architecture, trade/commerce, ruling groups, social changes), responses to the Crusades, rise of the Ottomans and other major groups of the time, the Balkan region’s Islamic development, Ottoman-European relations up to WWI, and related topics. We will also have lectures from University of Sarajevo and local guides.

There will also be visits to various masjids and tekkes for prayers, dhikr and spiritual reflection.

Furthermore, the natural beauty of country will be appreciated, with visits to mountains, rivers, streams, and lakes. We will visit quaint villages and enjoy supporting the local economy in the suqs and markets.

June 19 (W) Depart from U.S. or other location to Sarajevo.
June 20 (Th) Arrive and transfer to Sarajevo hotel. Evening: orientation, dinner, and walking tour of Bascarsija area.
June 21 (F) Srebrenica | Visit to cemetery and memorial for victims at 1995 genocide site.
June 22 (Sa) Mostar | Visit to Konkic along the way (woodcarvers and Tito’s bunker). Arrive in Mostar and tour old city, and famous bridge. Overnight in Mostar.
June 23 (Su) Pocitelj/Blagaj | Visit the Spring of the river Buna and medieval city (UNESCO site), as well as the Dervish house. Return for overnight in Mostar.
June 24 (M) Jajce | Visit water mills, Pliva waterfall and Plivsko lake. Go to Travnik for lunch, visit to Sulejmania mosque, and fortress. Proceed to Sarajevo.
June 25 (Tu) Sarajevo | Visit Spring of the Bosna river, Tunnel of Hope, Olympic mountains (Igman and Bjelasnica). Horse carriage ride.
June 26 (W) Sarajevo | Countryside excursion and visit to Trebevic mountain; Alpine coaster ride. Visit Alija Izetbegovic museum and Martyr’s cemetery, Svrzo house and markets. Visit to Nahla Women’s Centre. Dinner at famous restaurant Kibe.
June 27 (Th) Sarajevo |Visit to University of Sarajevo. Optional excursion.
June 28 (F) Sarajevo | Friday prayer at Sarajevo mosque.  Free time for shopping.
June 29 (Sa) Morning depart from Sarajevo for return journey.
 Note: Itinerary may be adjusted at the discretion of the tour leader in consultation with local tour support staff.
